This is a group for counsellors, psychotherapists and people who care for others such as social workers, probation officers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists etc.
The group was originally an Arts Council funded research project I devised to explore the effectiveness of Creative Writing as a therapy. Using a Core evaluation as a measure, I assessed a group of 16 counsellors and psychotherapists before and after a six week course of writing as therapy that I called ‘Making Soup’. The results were statistically significant.
After the course ended, the group decided to continue meeting and now has a mix of original members and those who have joined along the way. Not everybody comes to every session, so it is a new mix almost every session.
The sessions are all self-contained. No previous experience is necessary to understand and enjoy the day, nor is there any requirement for previous writing experience.
We operate a strict confidentiality policy.
We meet once every half term in Peacehaven Library training room from 10.30-1.30 with a break for coffee and munchies, (included in the cost).
We meet in Peacehaven Library Training room from 10.30am till 1.30pm. (map link). This is a clean, warm, modern facility with good car parking space and excellent bus links. The number 14 bus leaves from Brighton railway station and stops outside the library in the Meridian Centre.
By car, turn off the main South Coast Rd at Sutton Avenue roundabout. Follow signs for the Meridian Centre where there is ample parking. Inside the centre follow signs for the Library. The training room is at the back of the library.
There are shops nearby, including Long John’s Grill next door, great for a coffee or a bacon butty.
The cost is £30 per session, but do talk to me about concessions for the unwaged.
